    Chamber, The [20]

    Movie Reviews

Another of John Grisham's books focusing on a young lawyer (Chris O'Donnell) who attempts to save his grandfather (Gene Hackman) from the gas chamber. The grandfather had been convicted in a KKK bombing of a lawyer's children. We are taken through the appeals as the date of execution approaches. We are also given a glimpse of the execution process and the feelings of the people who are involved in carrying out the most final punishment in our criminal system.

I enjoyed the movie even though it did not live up to the book. The actors all do an excellent job of taking us through the plot without the feeling that we are observers. The production was well done, but since I had read the book, I already knew how it would end and the suspense was lost on me. I recommend this movie to those who are interested in a serious and thoughtful couple of hours. There will be no laughs, but a lot of time to think. (KC)
