    Matrix, The [29]

    Movie Reviews

I want to be Neo, 'nuff said. I can't do this movie justice and not give away the plot. So I won't. I'll try to be as effusive and obtuse as possible. This movie plays homage to many SF movies before it and also transcends them. It is not your typical Cyberpunk movie. And even if you despise Keanu Reeves - go see this film. The fight scenes are over the top and once you understand "What is the Matrix?" you'll see them in a whole new light. While there were scenes that screamed comic book to me with the closeups and the "talky-talk", the movie never dragged and just rolled along having a great time. Lately comic book transitions have been less than terrific - but this movie will ensure a spate of more mining of the 4 color paperbacks.

It doesn't matter where the plot came from - if it has intelligence, exectution, presence and a sense of self - it will fly. This movie has all of that in spades. Go see it twice. You'll see so much more the second time around. Good date film, really. [AB]
